Information about the white tea varieties produced in China. Six in total. 

Moonshine White – A white tea made from the big leaf variety of the camellia sinensis. This tea is picked form wild tea trees in southwest Yunnan. The big leaf white tea cake is made from the same leaves. The rich taste of this tea is quite similar to the taste of a high quality White Peony/Baimudan.

Silver Needle – The best of all white teas originating from northern Fujian’s Taimu mountain.  This tea is picked just once per year, in a period of around eight days during the Qingming festival. The buds must be hand-picked while the temperature is dry and warm. The best Silver Needle tea comes from places high in the Fujian mountains. This tea is naturally sweet, has a smooth flavor and is considered the most healthy of all teas.  Nowadays, people all over the world are searching for the best quality white tea.

Long Life Eyebrow – An average white tea which cannot compete with the Silver Needle, the Baimudan or the Moonshine White. The leaves are picked after the harvest season of the Silver Needle or the White Peony in Fujian. The colour of this tea is often darker, like partly fermented tea, giving it a less subtle flavor. . . Because of the relatively low price, this tea is often used as a base for mixed teas.

Tribute Eyebrow – This tea is a variation of the Long Life Eyebrow. It is also picked after the harvest season of the Silver Needle and it has the same appearance. It is considered to be of a slightly higher quality than the Long Life Eyebrow.

BaiMuDan/White Peony – This tea comes from Zhenghe county, located between Fuding and the Wuyi mountains in northern Fujian. In general this tea is considered to be the second best white tea after the Silver Needle, but the best quality Baimudan can compete with the best Silver Needle. The harvest method of this tea is one bud and two leaves. Because this bud has as many silver hairs as the Silver Needle, some people think that this tea is combined with the Silver Needle. The colour of this tea is slightly darker and the taste a little stronger.

Green Snowbud  – Not so famous, but a delightful white tea. Similar to the Baimudan, the Green Snowbud is picked while there are both leaves and buds. However, the taste is smooth containing mild flavors more like the silver needle.
